purpose:

this is my personal website, which serves as a public interface into my work and interests. it is also my canvas for experimenting with new web technologies and design.

means:

the current setup of this website is an experiment in using CSS as the primary means of design and layout. this allows the content to be seperated from the look and feel of the site. custom PHP coding is used extensively for the backend structure and for content management purposes. all CSS and XHTML code is W3C standard compliant, with few exceptions.
