This work explores the way in which each person's unique perception and experience shapes their view of reality. It is a combination of exposed black-and-white and color negative film taken by me or collected from the darkroom I work in, and slide film from old medical microscope photographs I found in an abandoned hospital. The film is cut apart and reassembled piece by piece over a light table into an 8x8" negative. This large-format negative is then printed in a color darkroom with an 8x10" enlarger onto 30x30" paper. These direct visual experiences represent the everyday stimulii that inform our thinking. As each piece of image is cut and decontextualized, they are stripped of their specific associations and become more general in their meaning. From this a new context can be built. (more...)
